From Bulletin of the Medical Library Association
v. 81 (4) Oct. 1993
Beyond the classroom
M. Kent Mayfield
Excerpts:
"Competence is holistic".
"Competence has often been treated a a combination of knowledge and skills that
can be transferred to a  person just as tools are added to a tool kit,
but the key
is active acquistion & use of competence"

"To treat knowledge and skills simply as tools to be picked up and tacked on,
would be to miss the creative adaptation & incorporation of such skills,
into a unified personal style"

"Competence involves both knowledge and analysis."
"To know the theories but be unable to recognize the conditions to
which those theories apply is no more competent, than knowing
the facts, but lacking the framework for understanding them"

Learn how to be a better employee - Book to consider reading
Please Don't Just Do What I Tell You!:
Do What Needs to Be Done:
Every Employee's Guide to Making Work More Rewarding
    Bob B. Nelson
    ISBN: 0786867299
    Publisher: Hyperion Press
    Pub. Date: September  2001
    From Publishers Weekly
This book is filled with brief anecdotes of people who did more than their day-to-day duties. In a friendly, knowledgeable tone, Nelson explains how to take the initiative and make one's job better or one's customers happier. Each of these brief chapters has a title that itself is a lesson "Turn Needs into Opportunities," "Learn to Enjoy Those Things Others Hate to Do" and "Regroup When Your Ideas Meet Resistance." His basic point is one of empowerment: think bigger, he urges, figure out "what needs to be done" beyond the confines of your job description and do it. Although readers may wish Nelson had offered more detailed suggestions, his solid advice should be read by employees at all levels of an organization.  Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.

This is a PDF file - you will need Adobe acrobat reader to open
    http://www.hsc.edu/hr/studentemploy/evaluation.pdf

Not an evaluation form of the "student' but you may find this useful
It is a "training check list" - so that you know you showed the
Student everything they needed to know - it is helpful, when
evaluating someone that you/or the "evaluator" understand
that the student received the proper training.
Houston Cole Library Student Assistant Training Checklist
    (Public Services)
    http://www.jsu.edu/depart/library/graphic/stcheck.htm
Actually - anyone employed in the Library should be properly trained
and fill in such a checklist, "BEFORE" any evaluations take place.
It is just my opinion - but I  think it should be considered a "requirement"
that  training checklists be filled in for all library staff positions.

    Writing Performance Objectives

    Major Concept:
A goal is a descriptive statement which defines an ideal future state of being.
An objective is a descriptive statement which defines a measurable activity.

    Major Concept:

Instructional objectives should be written in such a manner that they define:

Performance - What must a learner must do to demonstrate mastery? (Activity)
Criteria - How well must a learner perform? (Standard)
Condition - Under what circumstances must a learner perform? (Environment)
    Major Concept:
Instructional objectives can be applied to three learning domains:

    Cognitive - Knowledge and comprehension
    Affective - Feelings and value
Psychomotor - Body movement or response
