Pay no attention to the
Library tech, behind the
HTML CURTAIN!

Stay tuned!

In this Space
I would love to feature photo's from Conferences,
from Workshops, or your everyday workplace,
from events where Support Staff and other Library staff mingle
and celebrate their Libraries and/or their friendships .
Send pictures of award dinners, etc.

There are Libraries that have chosen to really show the world who they are
or at least their corner of their world:

of women and men from Alberta’s library community.
How about a belly dancer, a biker, a sculptor, a climber…
along with some readers and some darn good reads?

Consider
Sending me pictures of you doing your job, and I'll feature a new picture each month.

These photos are from The Beyond Words: Celebrating America's Libraries Photo Contest, which helped mark National Library Week 1999 and the Bicentennial of the Library of Congress. Amateur and professional photographers alike were encouraged to capture the spirit of our nation's libraries and the many ways they touch our lives everyday. Libraries nationwide held local photo contests and submitted their first-place winners to ALA for national judging.

Related NOTE: If your own libray is interested in developing your own Library Cart Drill Team
You may want to consider purchasing this book, as a resource:
Library Book Cart Precision Drill Team Manual
Linda D. D. McCracken, Lynne Zeiher
ISBN: 0786411597
Publisher: McFarland & Company
Format: Paperback, 168pp
Pub. Date: November 2001
From the Publisher
"This light-hearted but precise manual tells you step-by-step how to plan, equip and train a book cart drill team. It gives instructions for recruiting members and making the experience gratifying, finding festive opportunities to perform, doing the costumes, decorating the carts - and clear choreographic drawings for imaginative, attention-getting routines." And by the way: grocery stores, retailers, rental outfits and others could easily adapt the ideas in this book. They don't have to be library book carts, they can be grocery carts, baby strollers, and lawn mowers - anything you can push down the street.

Excerpt quoted from website
The Mancos Public Library Precision Drill Team danced its way down Grand Avenue, spinning carts and member's bodies to win the grand prize at the Mancos Days Parade on July 27 for the second consecutive year.  Wearing 1890's swimming attire, team members performed a routine to the tune of Marian the Librarian for the judges.  Trailed by children in modern swimwear and passing out bookmarks, they executed several drills along the parade route to songs from Music Man.  The team is exploring the possibility of performing in other local parades - keep an eye out for them!

This is me at my work desk, peeking in on my website,
I used Microsoft Picture It to edit image after scanning.

My husband recently (Jan. 2003) bought me a NEW 4 megapixal digital camera
I also have already a HP 2 megapixel camera that I have been using for 2 years.
Hopefully soon I will have new pictures to share, using
some of these online resources and tips I learn along the way.

I am planning on attending the COLT Conference in Toronto, this summer 2003.
Since it is right in my backyard (well 80miles away, kinda feels like a backyard).
So watch for the lady with a camera.

Scanning and Sending Photos by Email

Photo size:  Typically a photo is difficult to manage if it is larger than the screen. The recipient should be able to view the entire photo without scroll vertically or horizontally.  Resizing can be done easily with most popular photo software or image editors. Try not to exceed a width of 500 pixels and a height of 400 pixels. (Roughly 7" X 5½").  In reducing the physical size of a photo you also reduce the size of the file itself. A 500X400 pixel photo in 16 million color mode is approximately 135kB. (135,000 bytes).
Generally you should not send photo files much larger that 135kB for two main reasons:
1)the excessive time it takes to upload/download large files and;
2)there may be a limit on the amount of mail storage the recipient can receive.

Create Online Albums:

ALBUMATIC
Albumatic is the easiest, fastest way to get your photos on the Web.
You just tell Albumatic what photos to include, and it takes care of formatting them into a table. It creates thumbnails, if you like, and then links them to larger images. You don't have to hassle with HTML or image processing. But, if you just need to do a little cropping or add a caption, Albumatic can do that, too. Albumatic is one of the few free or shareware programs that can take your photos all the way from a scanner to your Web site all by itself. TWAIN and FTP support are built-in. If you've already got JPEGs around, it can take those, too. It even works with sites you can get for free from GeoCities, Tripod, and others.
